Southeast Massachusetts. Dave, Anne and I had a nice hike up Race Brook Falls and onto the Appalachian Trail and up Mt. Race. Here Anne is hiking north on the AT and that’s Mt. Everett in the distance behind her. I’m standing on the summit of Mt. Race as I take this.
This is a wonderful hike, well worth taking.
Kent, Connecticut. Hiking along the Appalachian Trail north of Kent we stopped for water and were standing around talking when Dave looked behind us and saw this fawn hiding in the ferns a few feet off the trail. It’s young enough so that it’s still nursing and its mother was off eating, leaving the fawn hidden. Fawns have no scent so if they can stay still predators will walk by them. Of course, keen eyed photographers can sometimes find them. This fawn hung out for a few minutes then sprang up and ran deep into the woods before we even knew what had happened.
